Lincoln

The skyline of Lincoln is dominated by the 11th century Cathedral, and Lincoln Castle built by William the Conqueror.  Another unusual site is Ellis Mill – the 18th century working windmill which still mills flour for sale today.  The city is divided into an uphill area known as ‘The Bail’ which includes the historic quarter around the cathedral and castle.  It is connected to the city centre ‘downhill’ by the historic street known as Steep Hilll.

The historic Cathedral Quarter is a short walk from the town centre with a choice of restaurants, pubs and cafes.  The Lincoln Drill Hall is a major drama, comedy and music venue, as are the Lincoln Performing Arts Centre and Engine Shed – both located at Brayford Waterfront where you can also find a cinema, bars and restaurants.

The St Mark’s Square area has recently been developed with a new department store and many high street chains are available nearby.  Steep Hill and Bailgate are popular areas for browsing in smaller, independent shops.

Lincoln is accessible to the junctions on the A1M via the A46 to the south and to the north via the A57.  Lincoln train station is located in the city centre and there are services to Nottingham, Leicester, Sheffield and Peterborough to the north, and a direct line to London St Pancras and London Kings Cross.   East Midlands Airport is just over an hour’s drive.
